Generalist Software Engineer

Scoopler is looking for a talented Software Engineer with experience coding in Python

Scoopler is a San Francisco based company, leading the real-time search revolution. We are looking for an individual with a strong software engineering background who enjoys solving hard problems to join our team.


About Scoopler:

Scoopler is a Y-Combinator backed company, whose investors include Ron Conway, Michael Birch and Avalon Ventures.  Our mission is to organize all the live content on the web and make it searchable in real-time.  Since launching in May 2009, we have been consistently named as one of the top 3 real-time search engines and we're passionate about pushing innovation in this exciting new field.

What we're looking for:

As you will be one of our first hires, you must be eager to take on a lot of responsibility from day one and have strong personal initiative.  You need to be a smart, highly motivated and extremely talented engineer.  You will be working mostly in Python, so previous experience is an advantage.  However, as a generalist you need to be flexible and ready to work on whatever is needed, so the ability to pick up new skills quickly is essential.  So, if you're excited by real-time search and you want to help us lead the way in this exciting space, then we want to hear from you!

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to product design and implementation discussions.
• Develop new products and features.
• Iterate on parts of our existing data pipeline.
• Test code before and after production release.
• Help create scalable infrastructure for our back-end.

Qualifications:

• Experience coding in Python - please point us to projects you've already worked on.
• Comfortable working with Linux based web servers.
• Ready to learn new programming languages quickly where required.
• Understanding of scalability, systems engineering and algorithms.
• Proven track record of solving challenging coding problems.
